Is Facebook traffic in the toilet?
Facebook has taken a beating lately, and its traffic is down 27 percent for the week ending Feb. 23 from a high during the holidays, according to Hitwise. But it's not clear whether that really means bad news for the social network, which has seen an increase in the amount of time users spend on the site.

The Most Hated Advertising Techniques
Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox, December 6, 2004:
The Most Hated Advertising Techniques
Summary:
Studies of how people react to online advertisements have identified several design techniques that impact the user experience very negatively.
From these techniques, you can research further to see what type of advertising would fit your business. Why waste your time, if it is going to repel rather than interest the reader?
These particular techniques were used prior to December 2004. This is 2008 so you will see that people still did not realize their futility when utilizing outdated and annoying campaign advertising.
The Internet changes rapidly everyday...if you want to keep current than you can either;
1.Do your research
Or
2.Subscribe to this Blog and I will do it for you.

The Advertising Secret
The Advertising Secret
By Dan Cavalli
This advertising secret will bring leads out of the woodwork straight to your website. It is a common belief that only 5% of advertising works. The problem is knowing which 5% works because that leaves 95% of the cost of advertising as being ineffective.

Subject Lines: Make Sure it's Accurate
Most everyone knows that it is very important to have a compelling subject line if you want people to open your email. If You don't hook people by what your subject line says, odds are you just lost them.
A subject line in an email normally should be 50 characters or less, which would include the spaces. This will enable the reader to read the entire line without having to open the email. Most of the time if it is longer than that,
it will be truncated(cut off).
I will bet that you had the same experience that I have had with emails. The email subject line says one thing...to make you open it and than when you do, the content is totally unrelated to the Subject. Have you ever had that experience? Annoying as all get out isn't it?
That is something you just want to stay away from. You want them to open your email, but not at the risk of losing them. Just make sure the content equals the Subject.
Example:
Subject line: They Thought I Was Wasting My Time...
Opening line inside the e-mail was:
But 6 months later I was driving a Brand New Mercedes. Now they want in on how I did it, after they told me that(Blank blank business) will never work.
You get the point. Don't mis-lead people or they will ignore your next email
Email promoting is still one of the best ways to get people to look at your offer. Keep your subscribers by not deceiving them. your credibility depends on it.

Major Newspaper Publishers Team on Online Ad Network
this looks like good reading. The more places that we can advertise, the better chance we will have to get noticed!
McLean, Va. - Attempting to boost their sagging ad revenue, four of the nation's largest newspaper publishers -- including Gannett (NYSE: GCI), Tribune (NYSE: TXA), Hearst and The New York Times Co. (NYSE: NYT) -- said on Friday that they will team to launch their own online ad sales network. The network, called quadrantONE, will work in a similar fashion to a networks launched last year by Yahoo and a group of newspapers, allowing national advertisers to buy space on more than 120 newspaper websites.
It will not include "national" papers such as Gannett's USA Today or The New York Times.
The new company, headed on an interim basis by current Tribune executive Dana Hayes, will be based in Chicago.

RE-Think your marketing(contnd')
Yesterday we talked about how we might need to re-think our marketing.
The Vice President of marketing for BMW said that their buyers are fast-track people who usually have success early in their careers. They believe that the Internet is a wonderful thing.
With that in mind, the company launched the BMW Films campaign, a brilliant way to ensure BMW kept its cutting-edge and high end brand in the forefront of its equally sophisticated and hip customers. There was nothing low budget about this campaign. Anyone viewing the campaigns on TV can testify to that.
This campaign by the way sold over 40,000 vehicles for BMW. As a matter of fact they witnessed their highest car sales during that campaign period. You can look for these films at:
WWW.BMWfilms.com. The point being to this post(s) is; We need to know there is a new market out there

What To Do Before Publishing Your Ad
When you feel that you have A Powerful Headline; Powerful enough to get your target market to open it, What do you do?
Very simple, you read that headline and ad to friends, relatives, and anyone that will listen. Your sole purpose is to see if they ask you for more information about the product or service you are selling. Than you run out a test of that ad, as mentioned in my previous articles. If they do not ask anything about what you are selling;it's back to the drawing board for you.

If Possible Always Stick To Highly Targeted Marketing Campaigns
Tip For The Day:
Build rapport and get acquainted with other website owners or Blogs that are in your Niche Market. Build good relationships and maybe even swap some content with your fellow Webmasters or Bloggers.
It is very relevant that no matter what market you are in, highly targeted, direct advertising is the key to having a cost-effective campaign. There are permission based email programs according to the experience that I have had are at the top of the most efficient ways to send targeted messages.
I have heard it said time and again, that fresh content is essential to any campaign. SEO(Search Engine Optimization) is an effective way to get your product or service in front of your customers. Keywords obviously are an excellent form of online advertising that you can buy.

Advertising Tip
Have you ever wondered why you keep seeing the same ads over and over again? The reason is simple; They work. Don't reinvent the wheel. Look for ads that have a likeness to what you are marketing. See if you can't find ways to use their winning ideas with your products or services.
Remember not to copy, just duplicate, and you too should be successful.

The Importance Of A Headline

Headline tips:
When writing ads, what is the first thing anyone sees? The Headline. The headline is the reason why anyone would decide to read or skip your ad. It's very possible that your ad is an absolute winning sensation...but with a bad headline you have a losing ad. How can you turn that around?
Let's Hope you do not have to see A Headline Like the one in this Post, but The Idea is;you have to create interest if you want someone to read your ad after the Headlines.
If you read the ads that caught your attention, what did they say? One thing among many is testimonies. If you use a testimonial type of headline, it ads credibility to the rest of your ad. You can also create what is know as a "fear of loss" or creating a sense of Urgency. Have you ever seen the ads on the Internet with a clock that is clicking down giving you so much time to "Act Now"! or lose the proposition? If you did, you have seen and been drawn into ordering.
More Headline Tips:
Why is it that some people buy a product and others do not? Benefits are something that the reader has been captured by to want to read more. Your headline needs to convey a personal touch.
Have you ever seen the ads Announcing a new Event or the opening of a store or the selling of A product? This type of ad is in news style or an announcement quality.
Do You feel that your ad should be focused around the price you are charging for a product or service? Feature the price, if you feel it is very competitive. It does not have to be the lowest price around for the ad to be opened for further reading.
How big is the word Free? you know the answer to that, don't you? How many times have you opened an ad just because it had the word free in it? probably more times than not.
There are also Instructional Headlines;
Headlines that begin with, "Which", "This" "How to" Or "You" are all used to tell you how to do something that you may not have been aware of. The point is, to get your attention.
Earlier in this post, I mentioned the "Urgency Headline" or the "Fear Of Loss". You can also put a date in your headline. This offer Expires_____________ This shows that the reader needs to respond in a timely manner or lose the benefits.
The most important point to remember here is; You have to think how you can get the reader into reading more. The headline is the answer!

Per Inquiry Advertising
Do you know what is Cheaper than Remnant Space?
Per Inquiry Advertising. The cheapest way to go if you have no idea how your ad will sell and you do not want to spend thousands to do it. With this type of advertising, the media actually bears the risk. There is nothing you have to pay for before your ad begins. That's the best part. The downside is the Media receives a percentage of everything that is sold due to your advertising. It is definitely a plus if your ad fails miserably. This means you received a test for free.
Something else to ponder:
Let's say a media outlet took the expense of running a PI ad for you that would normally cost $2-$3,000. You would get the ad for free, but you would need to pay the media $20.00 for every item sold. Let's say that 500 items were sold at $20.00 each. That means that you would be paying the media $10,000 on a $2-$3000 ad. You probably would not have paid $3000 if you had to pay that much for a test. the object of this lesson is you now have the knowledge that your test was a success.
Next time you can buy the same ads using remnant space. You would pay around $1000.00 for each ad and you would now keep the rest of the money for yourself. Try some searches regarding Per Inquiry advertising.

Multiply Your Advertising From Your Profits

Yesterday, we discussed some advertising strategies. Today let's talk about how we multiply your advertising with your profits. Some other people might say; Pyramiding your profits.
The whole concept here is that you have to think BIG!
You must have the commitment to do this. Here is how it works. Whatever profit you get out of one ad if large enough(profit), you will buy two ads. The money made from two ads will buy you four ads. The money from four ads will buy you eight ads. You get it? Just keep doubling the amount of ads with your profits. It won't be long before you will have literally thousands of ads submitted that can be like silent little money makers...bringing you in money no matter what time of day. That is like a passive investment, having your money work for you.
You will be looking back and thinking; Wow, it all started with that one ad. Now there is more to this strategy. The idea that is actually a working plan for many sounds rather easy, doesn't it? Well, no it isn't! Shucks, you say, I just knew there was a catch.
You know what the catch is? Simply, you have to have the Discipline and commitment to do this. You might recall at the start of this I said you need to have the commitment, the truth is you need both.
Here is what you need to do;
Open up a checking account specifically for advertising. When you make a profit on a particular ad, be sure you pay your bills and put the balance in your "advertising account"
It is up to you to decide how much you need to hold back for your business and for your advertising. If you find that you cannot multiply your advertising, than there is something wrong with your ads or where you are placing them. Read yesterday's article regarding this.
Now nothing in life that we do is going to turn out like the ideal scenario. As an example You may have the need for money elsewhere in the business. The point being, you need to advertise... no, you have to advertise, it is the cost of doing business. What this teaches us is discipline to think big and grow. It is also a great way to save your money for other needs. What you have to know is, this money is not for spending for anything except it's intended purpose.
